‘GREENSPACE’ RETURNS TO SUN ʼn FUN

SUN ‘n FUN CAMPUS, LAKELAND, FL. - When you think of “environmentally friendly products and services,” aviation may not be the first industry that comes to mind.  But SUN ʼn FUN is working to change all that with the return of an exhibit area known as “GreenSpace” that will have a prominent location at this year’s SUN ʼn FUN International Fly-In & Expo which will be held April 13 – 18 at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Lakeland, FL.

During last year's Fly-In & Expo, SUN ʼn FUN unveiled a new area on its event site that underscores its continuing commitment to the future of aviation: an exhibit featuring aviation-oriented products and services that are “friendly” to the environment.  Called the "GreenSpace," the exhibit featured Randall Fishman's ElectraFlyer-C airplane; an electric car; a hybrid car; the Lindbergh Foundation's “Green Investment Program”; a children's educational area; the City of Lakeland's water and soil conservation displays; a Florida Refuse recycling exhibit; and numerous other exhibitors focused on “green” products, services and lifestyles.

The Sun 'n Fun Flightline hosts so many aircraft, it can take days to see them all. However, 23 years ago, EAA Chapter 797 from Live Oak, FL came up with a way to see most all of the flightline in a relatively short amount of time, and the Flightline Tours operation was born.

In this virtual interview, Dave Shallbetter chats with Morris & Barbara Brown about the Flightline Tours. Hear about where they take you, what it costs, where the money goes (to a GREAT cause!!) and what's involved in making it possible...

‘MIRACLE ON THE HUDSON’ LANDS IN LAKELAND

SUN ’n FUN CAMPUS, LAKELAND, FL. – (Feb. 5, 2010) – Jeff Skiles, First Officer on US Airways Flight 1549 that safely landed in the Hudson River one year ago last month, will be a featured participant at this year’s SUN ’n FUN International Fly-In & Expo, which will be held April 13 – 18 at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Lakeland, Florida.      Skiles, 49, was at the controls with Captain Chelsea Sullenberger when the Airbus A320 jet experienced multiple bird strikes and lost power to both engines shortly after taking off from New York City’s LaGuardia Airport on Jan. 15, 2009.  Unable to restart either engine, the Flight 1549 crew prepared its passengers for the only option available to them. As history has happily recorded, Captain Sullenberger safely landed the airplane on the waters of the Hudson River just west of midtown Manhattan.  Of the 150 passengers and five crew members on board, only a few received minor injuries.  There were no fatalities.
